About Kanman

Kanman Wong
Vancouver Kingsway

Originally from Hong Kong, 45 year-old Kanman Wong and his family immigrated to Canada in 1979. Kanman and his wife have been living in Vancouver-Kingsway area for 25 years. Kanman is first and foremost a family man. He spends most of his leisure time with his sons, now aged 13 and 16 helping them with their many extra-curricular activities. He is very strongly committed to family values and believes the family is the basic institution of Canadian society.

An active member at the community, Kanman has demonstrated his ability in developing and implementing solutions to issues. His many years of community service includes:

- Director of the Marpole-Oakridge Community Centre Association
- Director of the Trout Lake Community Centre Association
- Director of Parent Advisory Council at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School
- Member of School Planning Committee at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School
- Member of the Drug and Alcohol Prevention committee at
- Collingwood Neighbourhood House
- Member of the Youth Committee at Marpole-Oakridge Community Centre
- Member of the Parent and Teacher Association at Vancouver College
- Member of the Parent and Teacher Association at St. Francis Xavier School
- President of Killarney Mini School Association

A graduate of UBC with a Bachelor’s of Science degree, Kanman also holds a Diploma of Technology from BCIT. He was an early pioneer in the computer industry, and has been working since 1987 in the field of providing computer equipment for film production companies. Kanman also teaches Vancouver School Board courses in computer software operation and is a sales consultant to the UBC bookstore.

As an ordinary citizen, Kanman is drawn into politics by a desire to broaden the political process, making it more transparent and inclusive. Being the father of two young sons, he is particularly concerned about the “brain drain” of Canada’s youth seeking better job opportunities in the US.

Kanman believes that fair taxes can benefit all sectors of economy and is the best way to encourage consumer spending, promote investment and create employment opportunities. Most importantly, they can benefit those who are unfairly burdened by our current tax system.
